Highlanders enjoy all-around success

Our Lake Highland Preparatory School students and staff continue to excel. Congratulations to these Highlanders:

Mr. Brian McAninch earned the Donus D. Roberts Coaching Excellence Award, a National Speech & Debate Association award. This remarkable achievement indicates that Mr. McAninch has earned 10,000 coaching points, one for every merit point earned by his students through competition, service and leadership activities.

Prateek Seela, a member of LHP’s speech and debate team, won the Lincoln Douglas Tournament championship.

Cross-country runner Annabella Tomasic, seventh grade, won the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 2A state championship. She ran 5,000 meters in 17 minutes, 32.9 seconds.

LHP’s seventh-grade flag football team won the Citrus League Championship.

Our girls volleyball team won their district championship.

The LHP swim and dive team won its 2023 district championship. And the swim team won its 2023 FHSAA Class 1A district championship.

The LHP boys and girls swim teams won their respective district championships, and both teams earned second place at the regional competition. Stevie Lopez won the regional championship in the 100-meter butterfly and 100-meter backstroke.

A dozen LHPS students were selected for this year’s Florida AllState Choruses and will perform at the Florida Music Educators Conference in Tampa in January. This is the largest group of accepted students in our school’s choral history and includes students from upper, middle and elementary grades: from the upper school, 11th grader Avery Peterson (HS SSAA Chorus); from the middle school, eighth grader Cameron Rineer (Middle School Mixed Chorus) and seventh graders Ava Rodriguez, Lucie Brannen, Zoya Sahai, Elena Mchayleh and Kashvi Gupta (Middle School Treble Chorus); from the elementary school, fifth graders Belle Acosta, Elise Asadi-Frazier, Lauren Chang, Shauna Kaup and Farrah Moreton.
